Born Ottilie Helen Maclaren
After studying sculpture in Edinburgh, she arrived in Paris in 1897 and attended classes at the Académie Colarossi. Accompanied by the American Sarah Whitney, she requested lessons from Camille Claudel, which soon came to an end. A student and assistant of Auguste Rodin between 1899 and 1901, she returned to Scotland in July 1901, exhibiting busts at the Salon de la Nationale in 1903 and 1904, before opening a sculpture class for women in London.
