Jessie Lipscomb

1861-1952
English

Daughter of a coal miner, Jessie Lipscomb first studied in London, then at the Académie Colarossi in Paris. There, she met Camille Claudel, shared a studio with her on rue Notre-Dame-des-Champs, and joined Rodin’s studio. The two friends possibly had a falling out due to tensions between Claudel and Rodin. Lipscomb returned to England, abandoned sculpture, and did not see Claudel again until 1929 at the Montdevergues asylum.
